Dr. Yi Ying Law Named 2025 Best High Performing Physician

Chanute, KS — Board-certified general surgeon, Dr. Yi Ying Law has received the 2025 BEST High Performing Physician Award. Nominated by her peers, Dr. Law was recognized not only for her clinical excellence but for the collaborative spirit, professionalism, and heartfelt positivity she brings to her work every day.

Her dedication shines far beyond the walls of the operating room.

“Her professionalism and positive attitude are buoyant,” says fellow physician Brandon Haefke, MD. “I have witnessed Dr. Law consistently go above and beyond when caring for patients, especially during emergency situations.”

John Molstead, PA-C, commented on her warmth and willingness to care for others. “She goes out of her way to ensure that her patients are cared for—if she finds out one of her patients is in the ER, she will personally come down to check on them. She goes above and beyond the standards to do this,”

Her positivity shines when Dr. Law talks about living in southeast Kansas. Ask her what she loves most about living here, and her answer comes without hesitation.

“it’s the people and the community,” she says.

“Every day, I get to care for my neighbors, friends, and families I bump into at events, the grocery store, or weekend fairs. There’s something really special about being able to make a difference for people you know. It makes the work feel personal and meaningful in a way that’s hard to describe.”

For Law, each day is an opportunity to make an impact.

“One of my favorite moments of the day is the morning. Showing up to the hospital and ready to do cases and help patients,” Law reflects. “Seeing how patients are healing, making progress is also a gratifying part of my day.”

“Watching someone recover and get back to their life is one of the most rewarding parts of being a surgeon,” she added.

“She brings a spirit of optimism to every interaction. The fact that she was nominated by not one but two of members of our medical staff speaks volumes,” Wendy Brazil, NMRMC CEO says. “We’re fortunate to have her caring for our patients.”

Dr. Law’s journey to Chanute is interesting. She went to college at Imperial College London, U.K., earned her medical degree at Perdana University School of Medicine, in partnership with Mayo Clinic, and completed residency programs at both Houston Methodist Hospital in Texas and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

“Living here has been such a gift. The community is warm and welcoming, and the slower pace of life has been wonderful for our family. We have space for our kids to play, friendly neighbors who look out for each other, and a sense of connection that you don’t always find in bigger cities,” Law said.

For those considering a career in medicine, Dr. Law offers heartfelt advice: “Medicine can be tough, but if you have a genuine passion for helping people, it’s worth it,”

“The right people can guide you through the hard days and cheer you on during the good ones.”

Ask the staff and they’ll tell you, Dr. Law one of the “right” people.

“She elevates the mood and performance of our Emergency Department every time she participates in patient care,” Haefke said.

“She puts her patients first and promotes a positive attitude not only with the ER providers but with the entire staff,” Molstad added.

Dedicated and committed, Yi Ying Law, MD is a wife, mother of two, board-certified surgeon, member of the Ashley Clinic, member of the NMRMC medical staff and the 2025 BEST High Performing Physician.
